The surveys will use CAPI, a form of electronic data collection where interviewers enter data directly into mobile tablets, a process that removes the need for data entry.
Mali began fieldwork on 20 July 2015, and is expected to go for three months covering a sample of 12,760 households. The survey covers the whole country with the exception of a few insecure rural zones in the Gao and Tombouctou regions.
These surveys are projected to complete fieldwork by the end of October 2015. Key results are expected to be released in early 2016. Fieldwork of the Mauritania MICS began on 25 July 2015 and is expected to go for three months as well, over a sample of 11,985 households covering all regions of the country.
The MICS in Senegal is an urban MICS survey which will be covering a sample of 5,440 urban households in the Dakar area, allowing the country to focus on the capital city, providing in-depth data for and within the city. Fieldwork in Dakar is planned to begin in the near future and is scheduled to last three to four months. Results are expected in first quarter 2016.
All three surveys are implemented by the National Statistic Offices of the respective countries. Technical assistance for the surveys is coordinated by the West and Central Africa Regional Office of UNICEF.
