The Kyrgyzstan 2023 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) provides a detailed snapshot of health, education, and living conditions across the country. This survey was conducted with 6,700 households, gathering in-depth data on topics ranging from maternal and child health to educational attainment and social equity.
In a nation where 68.5% of the population lives in rural areas, the survey’s findings are critical in highlighting regional and socioeconomic differences in access to services and overall well-being. The survey also offers specific insights into issues like early childhood nutrition and school attendance rates—key areas affecting Kyrgyzstan’s youth.
With data on 177 unique indicators, including 31 linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this survey equips Kyrgyz policymakers and development partners with essential tools to track progress and guide targeted interventions aimed at equitable growth and improved standards of living across Kyrgyzstan’s diverse communities.
The primary objectives of the Kyrgyzstan MICS 2023 have been:
- To provide high-quality data for assessing the situation of children, adolescents, women and households in Kyrgyzstan.
- To furnish data needed for monitoring progress toward national goals as a basis for future action.
- To collect disaggregated data for the identification of disparities, to inform policies aimed at social inclusion of the most vulnerable.
- To validate data from other sources and the results of focused interventions.
- To generate data on national and global SDG indicators.
- To generate internationally comparable data for the assessment of the progress made in various areas and to put additional efforts in those areas that require more attention.
- To generate behavioural and attitudinal data not available in other data sources.
This survey was made possible through the collaboration of the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, UNICEF, USAID, the Government of Switzerland, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
