The Azerbaijan 2023 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) offers new insights into child and maternal health, social inclusion, and human development.  As the first MICS survey conducted since 2000, it involved interviews with nearly 11,000 households, providing robust, updated data sets.

These data are particularly significant for policymakers, providing disaggregated insights across key indicators that enable targeted actions to address disparities, promote social inclusion, improve public services and support development planning.

The MICS survey also supports Azerbaijan in shaping a future that prioritises the well-being of its most vulnerable populations, addresses regional challenges, advances national goals, and tracks progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with the “State Programme on the Development of Official Statistics in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2018–2025.”

The primary objectives of the Azerbaijan MICS 2023 have been:

  • To provide high-quality data for assessing the situation of children, adolescents, women and households in Azerbaijan.
  • To furnish data needed for monitoring progress toward national goals as a basis for future action.
  • To collect disaggregated data to identify disparities and to inform policies aimed at the social inclusion of the most vulnerable.
  • To validate data from other sources and the results of focused interventions.
  • To generate data on national and global SDG indicators.
  • To generate internationally comparable data for assessing the progress made in various areas and to put additional efforts into areas requiring more attention.
  • To generate behavioural and attitudinal data not available in other data sources.

This survey was made possible through the collaboration of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, UNICEF, the European Union, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with active involvement from government agencies and community leaders to ensure comprehensive coverage and accurate representation of the population.
